The Interstellar Commerce Commission, colloquially known as the ICC, is the main authority and central organization for interstellar trade. By monitoring trading and leveling taxes, fees, and tariffs, the ICC has come to control most trading ports; possession of a valid ICC license is required by law, in fact, to conduct any trade.
Because the commission is owned and operated by the Weyland-Yutani Corporation, the commission often has the primary function of granting monopolistic or oppressive control of trading and exploration to Weyland-Yutani, going so far as to absorb competing companies in secret conglomerate partnerships.
